Guardrails
The principal function of guardrails is to provide safety in traffic
and to prevent any uncontrolled taking a turning off from the carriageway
at a site where it could be dangerous. Besides protection of other traffic
participants, guardrails are intended to minimise effects of a traffic
collision and to be serviceable in driving a vehicle out of the unfortunate
situation to set it parallel, or almost parallel, to the guardrail.
Guardrails are used on bridges, embankments and/or at sites where
uncontrolled taking a turning off from the carriageway could be
dangerous
